“Research Use Only” (RUO) means a product is sold strictly for laboratory research and is not approved for human consumption, veterinary use, or use as a food additive. Statements about RUO products have not been evaluated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
What RUO Products Are For
RUO research compounds are used by qualified researchers in laboratory settings — academic labs, contract research organizations, biotech R&D groups, and independent investigators studying receptor binding, assay development, biochemistry, and related work.
What RUO Products Are NOT For
- Human consumption
- Treatment of any disease or condition
- Veterinary use
- Use as food, dietary supplements, or food additives
- Cosmetic applications
Why the Label Matters
The RUO label is a regulatory framework that defines a category of products outside the FDA’s drug-approval pipeline. Compounds sold as RUO have not undergone FDA review for safety, efficacy, or human use.
Suppliers selling RUO products must hold the research-only framing consistently across all marketing — no efficacy claims, no testimonials, no use-case bundling. This is both a regulatory requirement and a signal of operating standards.
How to Recognize a Compliant RUO Supplier
- RUO disclaimer visible on product pages, marketing, and packaging
- No claims about what compounds “do” in humans
- Description by biochemistry (e.g., “GLP-1 receptor agonist”) rather than by use case
- No before-and-after photos or testimonials
All Matte Protocol products are sold strictly RUO. See our research disclaimer.
